This Is Hate 5 piece hardcore/beatdown band from Derby, formed in December 2015, the band’s first show was the following March, since then they have done weekenders across the country and been on a tour with Spanish giants Brothers Till We Die.
The band have played with the likes of Martyr Defiled, Carbine, Carcer City, Dead Harts, Cambion and many many more.
Their debut EP, Karma, was released in September 2016, and This Is Hate’s next one as yet untitled is due for release at the end of summer.
The band were even finalists in the Nottingham Metal To The Masses for a chance to play Bloodstock.
This is Hate’s debut music video Nemesis is out on YouTube and a plan is set for the release of their new single.
We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about their debut single and more!
So how has the release of Nemesis gone down with fans?
The whole idea behind Nemesis came as a last minute decision, it was our hometown show supporting Martyr Defiled and we reached out to a friend of ours and just decided to shoot it on the day. Everyone weve spoke to loved it, its been a fan favorite as a song since we recorded it so we wanted to do that song for them and us, we believe it went down well, considering it was recorded all in a couple of hours.
Can you tell us anything about this that no one knows?
The song itself was built around the sample, and not the other way around, me and Jimmy (guitar) were sat watching Snatch and decided it would be a cool sample to have in a song, so then the instrumental came and the lyrics flowed from the theme.
Is this different to your debut EP Karma?
Nemesis is on karma, it is the final song on the EP, and the last song we wrote for it.
Can you tell us anything about the upcoming untitled EP?
Were experimenting. Were going heavier but with more groove, we want people to instantly recognize our riffs now, rather than just full on beatdown, which isn’t bad, we just want to mix things up, and have been on our new tracks. Thats all im saying….
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
Malevolence, without a shadow of a doubt, for us they were one of the main influences when we started jammin in my living room, so would love to work with them one day (can only dream) Haha.
What’s the alternative music scene like in Derby?
Getting better! When we first started, gigs were pretty hard to come by, with only really one venue offering opportunities weekly for bands to perform, but since then weve seen the rise of venues putting on shows and us playing local shows, ive got to give special mention to The Hairy Dog, the venue has grown and grown and continues to bring bigger and better bands to Derby, and offers locals a chance to always play. Also The Sitwell tavern and the newly reestablished Victoria Inn ( The place we played our first ever show )
How proud are you to be finalist in the Nottingham Metal to the Masses?
It was an incredible journey, and we were over the moon to not only win our original heat but then go through the semis as well, it was one hell of an achievement, something were very, very proud off.
Will you be on tour at all this year?
We have a few things in the pipeline yes, might have an announcement or two soon on that topic… Weve got a pretty decent local run of shows coming up though in the mean time, were especially excited for Macmillan Fest in Notts and Alt Fest 2.0 in Derby.
What do you guys get up to while not writing music?
Were pretty motivated guys, we work so we can afford to do this and we love doing it, our guitarist Jay Lee has recently had a little baby girl too so hes either working, jammin or spending time with her.
