New England alternative rock band recently showed off the power of transformation in their newest release, an edgy version of Halsey’s Eyes Closed. Compared to the likes of Bring Me The Horizon, PVRIS, and Paramore, lead vocalist Gina Fritz puts on a wickedly compelling performance. Their version of of the song is the first taste of their upcoming transition into a new sound. A soft intro, slick guitar licks, and a solid combination of pop and alternative; Light It Up is successfully creating a unique sound that has a small bit for any type of listener. About the cover, the band states:
The band is a five piece female fronted alternative rock band from the suburbs of New Haven, Connecticut. After only being a band since September 2016 Light It Up is on the way to making a name for themselves. With the band building a strong following on social media and being featured on one of Connecticut’s number one radio station they are off to a great start. Light It Up has a few tours under their belt as well as supported national touring acts such as We The Kings, Hawthorne Heights, Metro Station and Cute Is What We Aim For and many more! You catch their latest cover below!
We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about their latest cover, latest EP Wasted Years and more!
How has your recent cover of Eyes Closed gone down with fans?
Our fans have been incredible! We weren’t really sure what to expect with this release because it was the first step in our transition towards our new style. But, we were pleasantly surprised with all the love and support we are receiving.
Are you big fans with Halsey?
We all are very big Halsey fans! I know for me personally from the minute I heard the first song on her last record, “Badlands”, I was hooked.
How has your debut EP Wasted Years gone so far?
Incredible. The support and new fans that we’ve gained after releasing “Wasted Years” is nothing short of amazing. Between having a sold out EP release show in our hometown and a successful EP release tour we couldn’t have asked for more!
What is your favourite track from this release?
Each of us have our own favorites but I know we all love playing “Gasoline” and “Bury Them” the most live!
Will there be new music out this year?
“Wasted Years” was just the tip of the iceberg for us. As of right now the plan is to release a couple music videos over the course of the summer for a few of the singles off our upcoming release due out early this fall. We also plan on releasing tons of content on our YouTube channel in the coming months featuring more full band covers, vocal covers, drum remixes and acoustic versions/remixes of our current songs!
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
Personally I would love to work on new music with PVRIS or Halsey because I think that they would be able to help us take our songs and career to the next level!
How was your recent string of tour dates in May go?
Our May tour was super fun! We got to hit some of our favorite cities and got to hang out with our good friends in Something More and Young Culture everyday!
Will there be a tour or gigs announced soon?
We will be playing a few festivals on the east coast and a few weekend runs this summer but other than that will be taking a break from touring this summer to focus on finishing our next record as well as incorporating them into our live set.
What were your first gigs you attended as a kid?
My first show was Blink 182, Green Day and No Doubt. A gig I will never forget!
What’s the alternative scene like in Connecticut as whole?
Connecticut seems to be a hot spot of new talent in the alternative music scene. We are lucky to be friends with some of the amazing bands like Forget Tomorrow, In Honor Of and Half Hearted that are putting Connecticut on the map!
