Interview: Basement Revolver talk latest single

Basement Revolver

Basement Revolver recently released their latest single Johnny Pt 2.

The song comes from their forthcoming second EP Agatha out July 21st on Yellow K in the US & fear of missing out in the UK.

Johnny Pt 2 follows the success of last year’s EP and debut single Johnny.
The EP has had a lasting impact, racking up over 800,000+ plays on Spotify and nearly 100,000 plays on SoundCloud. Johnny and their second single Words reached the higher echelon of the Hype Machine chart..

Formed in the honest grit of Hamilton, Ontario, Basement Revolver have seen a quick and notable ascent into the spotlight with their unique brand of 90’s infused indie-rock. The band has been able to formulate a captivating and refined hypnotic aural experience typically found with those who are well beyond their years.

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about the latest single and more!

So how has the release of Johnny Pt 2 gone down with fans so far?
Pretty good, we are happy with it! It is always scary at first because you never know what people are going to think.

Can you tell a bit about the single?
I wrote this song just over a year ago when I was going through a breakup, with the person whom I previously called “Johnny”. I really wanted to be friends, but I also really wanted to get over the relationship. I was willing to lose parts of myself in order to achieve peace, which in hindsight is not the best thing, but it is how I felt at the time. Break ups are rough.

What was it like working with Yellow K, were very helpful?
So far so good! It was really exciting to get picked up by an American label that we could jive with. It is really nice to know that a label like Yellow K is willing to invest in our project, and ensure that they will deliver quality with that investment. It is also really cool to be on a roster with so many other great bands!

How pumped are you for the release of your EP Agatha?
%111100000? Does that answer the question?

What is your favourite song from this upcoming release?
I think we all have a different favourite. It’s difficult to say personally because they have all come from a very sincere place. I’m probably going to say Bread & Wine because it is the most hopeful of the collection.

What does it mean to you when you see so many people listening to your music?
Its really surprising actually, we really didn’t set out with many intentions when we started the band together. We mostly just wanted to make music that we like. The fact that other people also seem to like it is really encouraging, and it pushes us to make better music too.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
Well, mewithoutyou is my favourite band of all time, and Aaron Weiss is super cool, but Paramore stole my thunder and just released a song on her last album featuring him. I am at a loss.

What were your first gigs you went to?
I think the Rocket Summer and All Time Low ahaha.

What was your funniest moment while recording the single?
There is a bass in Adam Bentley’s bathroom, we recorded the single in his/Jordan Mitchell’s studio Tape. I was waiting in line for the bathroom, but Brandon was taking so long. And then I heard him playing bass. After about ten minutes of trying not to pee my pants, I called him out on it. It was probably more funny at the time. There is also a picture of Adam playing that bass in the bathroom, or should I say a tasteful nude.
