Bare Teeth is a Punk Rock band from Lille, France, composed of Greg (guitar – vocals), Titouan (guitar – backing vocals), Jérôme (drums) and Tom (bass – backing vocals). After a demo sold to more than 250 copies, the French punk rockers Bare Teeth have release of their next EP First the Town, Then the World. The EP is now available on Digipack CDs, 12″ vinyl and in all digital formats. You can check out Parted Ways below!
We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about the latest EP and more!
How was the release of ‘First The Town, Then The World’?
Pretty well so far. We have a lot of very positive feedback and it is very motivating. We’ve been working on this EP for more than one year, so we are pretty happy it’s finally out.
Tell us a bit about the EP.
It features 7 songs and one acoustic bonus track. It has been mixed by Trevor Reilly of A Wilhelm Scream and features some guest vocals of Steve Rawles of Belvedere on one song. We feel pretty lucky and rewardful to have these two punk/rock icons on our record.
I’ve been a Belvedere fan for years and everybody in the band love A Wilhelm Scream. I hope we can play with them someday.
How was it working with so many labels from around the world?
It’s not as complicated as you may think. The hardest part is finding them. Most of the labels we’re working with agreed to work with us by listening to our demos because I knew them for a long time. Usually, labels want to listen to the final materials, mixed and mastered, but once you have them, they told you they can’t relase your stuff because the schedule is too tight for them.
Hopefully, we are really proud to team up with some very good labels in Europe, like Lockjaw Records (UK), Morningwood Records (Netherlands) or No Reason Records (Italy).
What is your favourite song from the release?
Though question ! I think it’s “Parted ways”, because the story is quite personal.
It’s about two long-time friends who used to be very close to each other, but grew very different when came the time of adulthood. Even if I’m now 36 and have a daughter, I don’t feel much different from what I used to be when I was 18, unlike some of my friends who are now into expensive cars, carreers, well-paid jobs and they don’t seem to have much fun anymore.
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
I think it would be best to do something very different from what we use to do. Maybe playing as a live band with an hiphop artist or a metal singer could be great. Have a different experience is very important.
We don’t like to put labels on our music. Obviously, we play punk/rock, but we also like to joke and say we play thrash/pop, haha !
What’s the pop punk scene like in France?
I can’t really tell about pop/punk. The hardcore scene is still strong, even if we don’t have really “big” bands. We have many friends from our area who play in hardcore band and they often tour in Europe. You should check bands like Fake Off, Kill For Peace, Veto, Miles To Go, …
The punk/rock scene is quite alive too : Burning Heads are still here since the 80’s, Uncommonmenfrommars called it quits but two of them now play in Not Scientists and they are really good. I wish it was bigger, like it used to be around 2000, but the punk/rock revival hasn’t happened yet, haha !
Will you be touring at all this year?
Sure ! We have to tour in the UK from July 4th to 9th. We have a bunch of shows in the north of France and Belgium when we’re back, then we should tour in Europe in November, and do some more local shows.
We are also thinking about touring in Japan in 2018, and maybe some other countries.
What was your funniest moment while recording the EP?
Recording the EP was quite a serious thing, but when we recorded the drums, there was a double bass there. We had a problem with one of the electric device of the studio, so we could record, so I spent about one day trying to play the double bass … then I bought one !
Maybe I’ll have a rockabilly or psychobilly band someday, haha !
