Interview: Eternal Rest talk latest album

Australian death metal band Eternal Rest recently released their album A Death in the Darkness via Truth Inc Records. The album was mixed and mastered by Joe Cincotta at Full Force Studios, New York and features a guest appearance from Psycroptic guitarist Joe Haley. Vocalist Shannon Davern, drummer Michael Hunter, guitarist Jake Kaiser and bassist Postlethwaite all make up the quartet that provides a prowess and sound that is comparable to high profile death metal acts such as Nile and Origin. Check out Extinguised below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their latest album and more!

How has the release of ‘A Death in the Darkness’ gone so far?
Very well so far, we are all extremely happy with the response. It’s a good feeling to FINALLY have up to date music online. Further new music will not be far away!

Tell us a little bit about the album?
A death in the darkness is mainly trying to touch on mental health in youth and society in general. Mostly depression and anxiety. Basically trying to vocalise the thoughts in the dark corners of the mind in a suicidal state telling a story that only exists in that one persons head.

What is your favourite track from the release?
Curse You All – the final track on this release is something slightly different to what we would usually do with a huge ending.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
Origin – Who wouldn’t want to work on a song with them!

How have the guys at Truth Inc Records been helpful with this release?
They have done a great deal with helping the release here in Australia, which is something the band was lacking. Never having representation in AUS only over seas. Looking forward to what else is in store, whilst working together. Greg & Jason are great guys with the same vision and drive.

How was it working with Joe Cincotta on the release?
Was a pleasure, such an easy process working with Joe. He knew the exact sound we were chasing and had a very fast turn around. Highly recommend if you are chasing a mixing / mastering or live engineer.

What has been your proudest moment to date?
Releasing our most recent album after a few rough years of touring &a line up changes. Being able to take our music to other parts of the world.

What was your first gig that you ever attended?
Would have been a local show back in Toowoomba where the band first formed so many years ago.

What was the funniest moment while recording this release?
How long it took for the album to be released!

Will you be on tour at all this year?
Yes we are currently in the middle of our Australian / New Zealand “A death in the darkness” release dates. Further national & international dates will be announced in the coming months.
