It’s not every day you see a tribute act that has so much originality to offer as well as providing old time classics – The Floyd Effect do just this. Having toured since 2007, The Floyd Effect has become rightly renowned for the remarkable accuracy with which it performs the iconic music of Pink Floyd. I think what was also key was that the dramatic lighting it created at Southampton’s 1865 and the set certainly created a buzz. Although the gig was seated, the atmosphere was superb and the band easily engaged with everyone in the crowd. They played classics such Echoes and High Hopes near the beginning of the first set which was a real treat for all Pink Floyd fans. What was great also is that started off with Shine On You Crazy Diamond parts 1- 5 which was a brave move to do at the start of the set with it lasting over ten minutes. These guys are professionals however and they ended the first set with Another Brick in the Wall Pt 2 which was a perfect way to end a set and allowed people to enjoy their drinks and talk about how good the performance was. In the second set, The Floyd Effect played songs such as On The Run and Eclipse. It wouldn’t be a Pink Floyd tribute act however without the likes of Comfortably Numb and Wish You Were Here which was the ending songs from the band. It was amazing to see these songs being played having never actually got to see Pink Floyd when they were still about. This is truly the next best thing though I can honestly urge any Pink Floyd fan to come and watch these guys perform.
