Having made a name for themselves in the NYC live DIY music scene, progressive soul outfit Vinegar Mother are now gearing up to unveil their debut EP, The Sunny Seat, due out November 18th. In advance of the EP, Vinegar Mother released a video for soulful single Sunny Seat which you can watch below!

The cathartic tune narrates the troubled innermind of the protagonist, played by front woman Julia Zivic, while she tries to cope with heartbreak and encounters various reminders of her loss along the way. Ironically enough, the tune started out as a journal entry of Zivic’s, as she explains, ‘I was writing on the subway after a bad falling out with one of my longest best friends.’ As the G train went over the Gowanus Canal bridge and the sun hit her directly in the face, Zivic was comforted by its warmth, however the unbearable feeling of loss lingered and the song began to pour out.

In 2012 in their home state of Connecticut, founding members Julia Zivic (lead vocals), Itamar Gov-Ari (keys, guitar and vocals) and Jason Zivic (drums) began performing together under the moniker, Julia Zivic & The Brothers. As the music experimentation expanded and the group changed pace, the three decided to start a new project including Zack Slaughter on bass and Chris Stelluti on saxophone. Together, the quintet recorded the band’s debut EP, but shortly after Slaughter joined the Marines and current bassist Mike Roninson entered the mix. Exuding a natural chemistry born out of their eclectic musical backgrounds, Vinegar Mother, attributes their unique sound to the open minded and relaxed songwriting approach, tackled as a union with all members bringing ideas to the table. The band currently performs as a quartet, as the core members continue to explore and construct their sound.

Under Julia Zivic & The Brothers, the band had the opportunity to share the stage with Dr. Dog, George Clinton, Santana and Buddy Guy at the Greenwich Town Party Festival in May 2014. Julia Zivic & The Brothers also participated that year in the  International TalentHouse Jimi Hendrix Competition, where they placed 2nd with their rendition of “Red House.” As Vinegar Mother, the group has played numerous shows at Brooklyn’s legendary Knitting Factory, The Studio at Webster Hall and are regularly invited to play SoFar Sounds showcases throughout the city. Last year, Vinegar Mother played CMJ and opened for notable touring acts such as The Lonely Biscuits, Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band as well as Joanna Teters & Mad Satta.

The Sunny Seat is due out November 18th, with a special limited cassette release coming March 2017 via Invertebrate Records.
