The new single from Californian 4-piece Symmetry, Gotta Wake You Up, is led by vocalist Mike Campbell whose powerful range embraces both the delicate and the passionate, whilst interwoven by the subtle guitar work of founder Jared Hara, coupled with the intoxicating rhythm from Will Weiner on bass and Max D’Anda’s commanding drums, we are left with a 3-minute Pop Classic. Jared, who is blind, proudly waved the flag for his band on World Sight Day earlier this month and in anyone’s eyes, the man is a pure inspiration to music.

Symmetry bring ‘Gotta Wake You Up’ exclusively to the UK following their roaring success here last year. Having toured with Don Broco, Third Eye Blind and most recently coming home from a blistering 30 date US tour with British band Coast. They are ready to return and embrace their UK fans and revisit their old stomping ground of St. Albans.

Unpretentious, simple, yet contagious this is a song that will stay with you from the minute you wake up. You can check it out below now!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about the new single, touring with Don Broco, fans and more!

So how has the release of Gotta Wake Up gone?

The song has only been out for a few weeks and we’ve managed to receive overwhelming support from our fans as well as catching the attention of radio. airplay at BBC Radio 1 took place on World Sight Day which has us eager for more. We are trying to wake up the world!

Tell us a little bit about the track.

Our goal with the song was to wake the world up with everything that’s going on in modern day politics/society. You can’t truly resolve issues without first acknowledging that there’s a problem. It’s time to get people informed and work towards a better tomorrow.

What inspired you guys to write it?

We wanted something fresh, something slower than we were used. We actually decided to try working with a co writer just to give it that extra flavor. It kept us on our toes as song writers as well broadened our musical pallets. The meaning of the song sort of happened naturally because our intent wasn’t to write song about saving the world or anything. We literally spent about 3 or 4 hours taking turns passing around the acoustic guitar and lyrics. Next thing you know, we have a song and lyrics and I think that’s when we started toying with what the song meant/could mean for other people.
Will there be a EP/Album on the way? We have and Album on the way!! It will be an extension of our Cure EP. We’ve added a few brand new songs and revamped it to better represent us now.
What was it like touring with the likes of Don Broco?

One of our favorites to tour with. Super nice band, very talented and humble lads.

How much do your fans mean to you guys?

Well, simply put, we would not exist otherwise. The fans are the foundation of all the choices we make. They have a direct influence on us. Our fans are everything!

How inspiring is it for the rest of the band to see guitarist Jared Hara do what he does day in and day out without sight?

It’s amazing to be around someone who is an amazing example of overcoming odds. It’s also very inspiring to watch him inspire others too.

What is it like being heard on BBC Radio 1?

Well, we heard from our fans that we were on it. We literally didn’t believe it. We had to do some digging to listen ourselves and later we found the online link that had already aired live. Needless to say, we were very stoked to find out that it was all true.
