The Hunna performed to a sold out Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth on Tuesday with The The Night Café and Blaenavon both putting in solid performances. I managed to arrive at the venue around an hour before the doors opened and already there were queues of fans waiting enter the venue. Liverpool four piece band The Night Café opened up the night having just announced a UK headline tour themselves. The lads were a perfect opening act for the venue and really got everyone into the mood for the night. The indie band played their hit Growing Up which was a real highlight for the Portsmouth crowd that were superb throughout the set and gave these guys a very warm welcome. Their latest song Mixed Signals also went down a treat that proved why they were performing to a sold out crowd.
Next up was Blaenavon who certainly knew how to put on a show having played a number of live shows this year all over the country. The Liphook/ Liss three piece managed to get the crowd going where they left of with the previous band. Harris McMillin, Frank Wright and Benjamin Gregory all put in 110% in their performance as they perform their new single Let’s Pray. These lads have plenty of potential and managed to engage the crowd at all times which is a true indication of being a good band. They also performed songs from their Miss World EP among over releases. Overall this three piece could go a long way and with their likely to be new music soon, who knows how big Blaenavon could get.
Last up was headliners The Hunna, who despite being known as this name for a little under a year now, the band have such a huge following. The band consists of Ryan Potter (Vocals/Guitar), Dan Dorney (Lead Guitar), Jermaine Angin (Bass) and Jack Metcalfe (Drums). Having met up with the lads beforehand, I can honestly say they one of the nicest guys I had the pleasure to meet. Performance wise, I could not fault them one bit with them playing songs from their newly released debut album 100. Probably one of their most well known songs, Bonfire, was just incredible live and Potter on vocals just put in so much effort to get the sound right. There was plenty of crowd surfing and even a mosh pit at times that you don’t normally see with their indie/rock style of genre. But it just shows how much energy they put in songs such hits as You & Me and She’s Casual that really got all the fans on a high. It is no wonder why these Hertfordshire lads sold out the whole tour, with the atmosphere just being electric throughout. I predict big things for The Hunna, and I’m sure it wouldn’t take long before they are a household name in the world of music.
