Interview: Francie Moon talk new EP

Francie

Francie Moon recently released her new three-song self-titled EP on 23rd September as with recently revealing single Walked Away. One of the best kept secrets in New Jersey, garage-rocker and singer-songwriter Moon is exactly what you might think of when you hear free spirit. Always travelling in her well-worn van, Moon has gigged in every nook and cranny, bar and coffee shop in the continental U.S. Each of the three tracks on the EP were recorded live on a tape machine before Moon moved for a spell down to Georgia, which lends the overall sound a feel you might hear on a Third Man Records release. You can check out Walked Away below.

We managed to get an interview with Francie Moon about her upcoming EP, inspirations, even more new music and more!

So you release a self-titled EP next month, how proud are you of it?

I can say that I am most definitely proud of this EP. Not only am I proud of it from my own standpoint, but of everyone involved. Our drummer Richie Samartin who initially recorded it and our friend Jon Irizarry who helped us overdub, mix, and master really put in a lot of beautiful time into it and I feel like we finally get a chance to show everybody what we’ve been up to! It’s like we’ve been holding our breath for a year and finally are letting it go.

Is it any different to previous releases/tracks?

Yes, this one is different for a couple reasons. All the other releases have been recorded, mixed and mastered by me on my home 8 track digital recorder. This time I worked with a band and we recorded to cassette and then transferred everything to ProTools where we mixed and mastered all together. It was a whole lot of fun and we all worked together really well.

Will you be looking to write a full studio album soon?

Yes, we actually are releasing one early 2017. And we have been writing and recording a good amount of new material on top of that too!!

How successful has Walked Away been so far?

“Walked Away” has been an awesome success so far. It spread around a lot, got love from the radio and even found its way to Germany! To me releasing a song feels like sending a kid to college. You never know what’s going to happen, but you got to trust that everything is going to be okay.

What has inspired you in this EP?

My music always seems to come from a deep place inside my heart and my gut, a good amount of travelling and just trying to process the feelings of being a human.

How much do your fans mean to you?

I can’t even express with words how much the people who support my music mean to me. They are a huge part of the equation of why I get to do what I do and why I get to keep on doing it.

Have you got any more tour dates planned for this year?

Yes, we’re playing the All About Downtown Jersey City Street Fair on September 17th around 12:30 PM. We’re sharing the stage with Elephant Fire, the Pedestrians, a Surati Dance Performance and a bunch more acts all day.

If there was any artist you could work with, who would it be?

Neil Young.
