On Thursday I went to the Hare and Hounds, a stunning looking venue on the main high street in Kings Heath, around 20 minutes from Birmingham City Centre – Writes Isabelle Pollock. I had previously been to this venue once before, a couple of months ago to see an acoustic gig which was brilliant.
On the morning of the event, I noticed that one of the bands I follow on Twitter were performing in Birmingham on that day, so I thought I would just send a small message, just wishing them a good time, as they were performing in my hometown. I then got speaking to one of the members from one of bands that were performing, who suggested I should come along to the event.
Thinking it was only going to be small event with perhaps 1 or 2 bands, I saw official poster (below) for event and realised that it was hosted by Bedlam Bookings and around 5 bands were performing, some that I had already been following on Twitter and had briefly spoke to before, plus the entry was only £6 which was an added bonus.

BLANK PARODY
Blank Parody are alternative rock group from the Midlands with similar music vibes to bands such as My Chemical Romance and Foo Fighters. Their recent single ‘Dark Pretenders’ is brilliant song with great uplifting and dynamic guitar and drum riffs and strong vocals. After an intense couple of years of song-writing and enhancing their musicality, the boys finally released an EP earlier this year entitled ‘Exhibit A’ , which was produced by Jim Pinder (Treehouse Studios, Chesterfield) Blank Parody definitely have a great future ahead of them and I wish them all the best!
THE CLAUSE
The Clause are a young indie rock ‘n’ roll group formed in 2010 while their were at school in Solihull. Some of the bands influences include Catfish and The Bottlemen and Arctic Monkeys. Their song ‘ Shut Me Out’ demonstrates their fresh indie rock vibes style. A great group with a lot of maturity and confidence. I think with couple of more EPs and more gigs, these boys will definitely gain some more recognition. A great local talented band that are sure to do well in the next upcoming years!
FIRE LADY LUCK
Fire Lady Luck are alternative punk rock/pop punk band from the North East of England. As soon as I heard them play, they instantly reminded me of a young Green Day. Especially as Lewis Naylor Thubron lead vocals, sound very much alike to Billie Joe Armstrong’s. Formed in 2007, these boys are certainly experts in performing gigs, especially with a heavy summer and autumn full of gigs
and festivals all over the UK and it is great to see that their talent is being acknowledged. They also won ‘Song of the Year North East’ in 2012 with their single ‘No Need to Talk’. A great group of lads who definitely have a lot more to give!
PHOTO FINISH
Formed in 2015, Photo Finish are pop punk group from Peterborough with similar music vibes to bands such as Blink 182. A fantastic set consisting of some original songs, an acoustic song and a cover of ‘Stacey’s Mom’ by Fountains of Wayne. Definitely a hardworking and dedicated band, who shows passion and spirit in every performance, which is great to see from a band that have only been together for short period of time. Photo Finish are kinda band that are very supportive. They sing along, dance, and give lots of encouragement to other bands that play and will come over and speak individually to all their fans. These actions really show the love they have for music, to each other, to other musicians and to all the fans. I wish the boys all the best in future and just like to say thank you for free EP.
UK FEDS
UK Feds, who themselves describe, are a “heavy ska” group, consisting of both alternative punk rock and ska music. Having always listened to both these genres, I had never quite come across a band who combines both, but UK Feds are living proof that this style of music definitely works.
Writing about everyday life experiences and social and economic problems they face or see happening in the world, you definitely see their frustration but also a great passion about informing their experiences in their songs. A strong and compelling set to end a evening of great music!
