Interview: The Decoy talk upcoming EP

The Decoy
The Decoy

Welsh band The Decoy will release their debut album Avalon next Friday on 29th July via Ghoulish Records. Avalon is chock full of ideas and irresistible tunes and personality. Stadium-sized anthems and infectious vocal hooks create something quite special from a band coming well into their maturity. The record follows on from their critically acclaimed EP Parasites, which received praise from several music magazines. The band have been handpicked to play YNot Festival at the end of July and are tarting to get the attention they deserve. You can listen to Andyouism below.

You can check out an interview I had with the band below where they talked the upcomng release, fans, inspirations and more!

Are you guys looking forward to the release of Avalon?
We’re mega excited, it’s been ten years in the making, so we’re really looking forward to it! Hopefully our fans will enjoy it as much as we’ve enjoyed making it! There are tracks on this album that date back to the middle ages, we’ve dug those bad boys out, given them a kick in the arse and finally got them recorded!
What is different about this album from your previous releases?
It’s an album, no ASDA blank CD’s and paper swans this time! There’s something immensely rewarding about staring down at a jewel case and seeing your bands logo in there! We’re big boys now!
What’s it like being part of an up and coming band like yourselves?
We’d be lying if we said it was shit. It’s hard work—as it should be—and it’s a good laugh. We’ve spent years slogging the toilet circuit, ramming our music into the orifices of unsuspecting pub goers across the UK. But we wouldn’t have had it any other way. It’s what we use to escape the daily grind of life.
What would you say to your fans that go to gigs and listen your music?
Well firstly, thanks very much for listening to our music! Please keep doing so, tell your friends too as we don’t like our day-jobs! Also, when people make that voyage all the way out to one of our shows, to be there in person—just for us three numpties—it really does make all the practice, cramped van hours and kit haulage worth it!

What music inspires you guys?
The world and everything in it. So no aliens. FUCK YOU ALIENS. Unless they impregnated us with tunes in which case, thanks are due. Things that happen that we feel shouldn’t, make us want to prove ourselves even more. We all love different kinds of music too which I think contributes to our sound immensely, whether we are aware of it at the time or not.
Where would you like to see yourselves in 5 years time?
Making music all day, every day, everywhere and anywhere other than Pontypool. The last few months have been a bit of a rollercoaster for us as a band, lots of great stuff has happened and will hopefully continue! We intend to ride this mutha to the end of the tracks and beyond!

Have you got any plans for new music this year?
No plans ever. Mostly, we just turn up and make it! We are so dysfunctional. If we didn’t have our managers to periodically prod us, I don’t think this album would even exist. Also, any cover tracks our fans think we could rock out let us know and we’ll try to ruin it for you.
