Essex emo rockers Brave Vultures recently announced their new EP I’m Not Coming Back Unless You’re Coming Here will be released 16th September. The album is the quartet’s guitar driven statement of intent, a first step in a career which vocalist/guitarist Dom Littler and his bandmates hope will save them from the mundanity of real jobs. You can listen to the band’s latest With Me below.
I managed to chat to Littler about the latest release, fans, inspirations and more!
Are you guys looking forward to the release of I’m Not Coming Back Unless You’re Coming Here?
INCBIYNH will be our first release as a band so we are really stoked to give people a chance to find out what we are all about. We have put a lot of time and effort into writing this EP and we can’t wait for people to hear it. We want people to relate to our lyrics and find comfort in knowing that everyone goes through shit times.
What’s going to be different about this release to your previous work?
As this will be the first release from us as a band it is all fresh so we couldn’t really compare it to anything else we have written. Due to all members of Brave Vultures being in bands previous to BV, we all got to put a little bit of influence in from past experiences.
How has the release of With Me gone?
We have had some great comments come from the track. Considering it is our debut single and no one has ever heard of us before its doing really well. I am really proud of the track as it holds a lot of meaning to me personally. – I first wrote ‘With Me’ as an acoustic song in my room about a year ago. The song is basically about a day in the life of me and Jess (my girlfriend). I take her to work, we always do a silly smile at each other before she has to leave, she comes home from work, we have some dinner, listen to some music etc. The chorus is about my everyday insecurities, ‘’i’m always incomplete’ – i never really finish anything I start and I always feel like i could be bettering myself as a person. Its quite a personal song to me, and I also like the reference to the Turnover album ‘Peripheral vision, its one of our favourite albums.
How did you guys come up with your name?
It was the early days of starting the band and I was on the look out for a band name. I was doing some research for a university project and came across one of the most haunting controversial photographs in the history of photojournalism. Kevin Carter, “Struggling Girl”, Sudan 1993. The photo really hit me hard and especially the story of the photographers suicide years after the photo, it made me think. The Vulture in the photo didn’t have a clue, it was simply hunting its pray, being that little bit braver then the other hunters and ended up in a world famous prize winning photo. The story continues that the photographer chased the vulture away and the starving Sudan girl survived but Carter just couldn’t cope with the haunting tragedy of what he had seen over the years. You just have to be a brave vulture and who knows where you could end up, an award winning photo combined with a tragic ending.
What’s it like being part of an up and coming band like yourselves?
It’s exciting but scary at the same time. We have put a lot of our time and personal finances into the band. It takes a lot of bravery to laugh off financial security and join a band. You have to be brave if you want to follow your dreams.
What would you say to your fans that go to gigs and listen your music?
Thank you, buy some merch when it’s available as we are skint and tell your friends. Haha.
What music inspires you guys?
We are all massive fans of Moose Blood and I think it clearly shows in our music. We are all into many genres such as pop punk, metal, hardcore, pop, emo. A massive inspiration for us as a band apart from moose blood, is Turnover and Basement.
Where would you like to see yourselves in 5 years time? Hopefully headlining some awesome tours, signed to a cool label, making loads of friends and to just be happy with what we have achieved.
Have you got any plans for a tour?
We are heading out on a UK tour in October (to be announced soon) and also going over to Germany for a few dates in October. Keep your eyes peeled and hopefully we might see some of you at a date!
