Colchester newcomers Brave Vultures, today announced details of their debut EP, I’m Not Coming Back If You’re Not Here. Vocalist/guitarist Dom Littler said: ‘I try to write to a realist style and cut the bullshit cliches.
‘My lyrics are about my struggles with anxiety, love and relationships, a best friend recovering from a drug addiction and coming out of rehabilitation a better person.’
The EP will be released 16th September and aptly containing the title in it’s lyrics, is lead single With Me, which can be streamed below.
Completed by bassist Harry Stokeley, guitarist Jack Hudson and drummer Richard Aries, Brave Vultures is the members’ self-proclaimed “escape from the world”, their sanctuary from real world pressures. The band name is derived from the infamous and somewhat controversial photo by Kevin James entitled ‘Struggling Girl’, which depicts a vulture sizing up a starving young girl in Sudan. Littler explains: ‘The photo really hit me hard.
‘The Vulture in the image didn’t have a clue, it was simply hunting its prey, being arguably braver than the other predators.
‘The story continues that the photographer chased it away and the starving Sudan girl survived, but Carter just couldn’t cope with the haunting tragedy of what he had seen over the years.
‘An award winning photo combined with a tragic ending.’
I’m Not Coming Back If You’re Not Here is the quartet’s guitar driven statement of intent, a first step in a career which Littler and his bandmates hope will save them from the mundanity of real jobs. Layered with passionate vocal hooks and influences from all corners of the pop punk, punk rock and emo rock world world. With nods to Deaf Havana and Moose Blood, the 5 tracks provide a solid foundation for the band to make their mark with. Littler continued and said: ‘Being in our mid-twenties, we are all being pressured into getting real jobs and growing up.
‘Brave Vultures is our escape from the world, and we won’t be hanging up our gigging hats for some wanker in an office any time soon.
‘It takes a lot of bravery to laugh off financial security and join a band. You have to be brave if you want to follow your dreams.’
