When did the initial idea for your latest single come together?
I wanted to write about a character who was living a life in an era of civilian-controlled zones, and is close to escape to survive outside in a dead zone. The album set in dystopia. The character in the track repeats lines of others’ desires over her and her own dreams.
How would you describe the track, to a reader that is unfamiliar with the band?
It’s a futuristic and machine-like rock. Both a catchy vocal and synth signature line follows throughout the track, upholding the song against a rocky guitar riff.
How would you say that the track compares to anything you’ve done before?
It is really different – more futuristic, more cinematic. I can vision it being featured in big movies. It’s one of my proudest pieces of work.
What was the hardest part about putting it together, and why?
Well, the mix between heavy riffs against a mechanical rhythm with full production and synths can be tricky, particularly around getting the perfect clear balances of sound. But you do lots of production treatment to achieve the required sonic value.
Why should a reader check out the track?
Firstly, I think it’s a new move forward in rock and electronic full stop. But it’s exciting, it’s gritty, it’s catchy to eat into your conscious, more something new dark to get into and hopefully they become fans.
What else can you tell us about the track, that we haven’t covered in this interview
Well I write arrange play all instrumentation, mix and Master my work. Some people seem surprised. But I learnt to do it all and not wait on others. A great skill, I pick up from being a Numan fan all my life.
