MGK – MeMe, Georgia, and Kal at home.

For me it was another night of racing Ubers – Formula Brum – with my gig buddy Sammy Johns, as we hurtled across town to watch MeMe Detroit flying gracefully like a falcon, over the homes and castles of Birmingham, she is always a stylish and disciplined performer.

Considering she recently had surgery, watching these post op med junkies was a lesson in resilience, nerves of steel that cut through the venue and proof that this band have always been ready for bigger and better things. With Abbie unable to be there, guitarist duties were handed to Georgia of Lokko (and not a decapitation in sight – phew), she didn’t miss a beat as she wore the teal uniform as a badge of honour, alongside the distinctive teal warpaint that makes MeMe so unique and instantly identifiable. Bringing up the rear was drummer Kal, pummelling away like his life depended on it, all the better for us I’d say.

A familiar setlist but no less electrifying, sending shockwaves through your body and around the room, still maintaining a more than adequate amount of the energy that we are used too.
When she bounced off stage, I held on for dear life, but she glided effortlessly through the melee, a veteran at this game, a band that put their heart and soul and much more into whatever they do.

Full of fan favourites we sang and harmonised along to the tunes we hold close, with the edgier sounds of latest single ‘Good Life’ and ‘Roaring at the Preachers’ at the start, then it was a lights low moment with the delicate synth sounds of ‘How She Runs’ a song that touches, tingles, sparkles and shines, and leaves us all teary and dreamy.

For the best oohs ooh’s and woahs woah’s you’ll ever hear, make sure you keep your ears to the ground for all the MeMe shenanigans, sign up to the mailing list and keep your soc meds updated.
Fix up your schedule and be sure to come along and see how she runs, and how she is rightfully the talk of the Castle & Falcon tonight and forever.
