Stone Sea talk new single ‘Left to Be’!

When did the initial idea for your latest single come together?

I remember composing the chorus and verses of Left to Be while I was in Brazil visiting my family on holiday. Finishing the song took a while, though—we went through several outro versions that didn’t quite work. With a bit of patience, the right idea eventually landed.

How would you describe the track, to a reader that is unfamiliar with the band?

Alternative rock with a strong ’90s grit, very melodic vocal harmonies, and an epic solo a la Randy Rhoads.

Can you tell us a bit more about the meaning behind the track?

I wrote the lyrics during a quiet moment of reflection, after some excesses I put myself through (as often happens when I’m back in Brazil). It’s almost like Superman meeting Peter Pan for a carpe diem hangout. Hangovers tend to push me toward a more stoic mindset (laughs).

How would you say that the track compares to anything you’ve done before?

It feels more mature, even though it doesn’t radically reinvent our sound. The chord choices are fresher, and I used a unique guitar tuning that’s exclusive to this song.

What was the hardest part about putting it together, and why?

Figuring out how to properly play the solo—its complexity, combined with the unique tuning, made it a real challenge (laughs).

Why should a reader check out the track?

It’s honest, the instrumentation is straightforward, and it carries a lot of nuances. It feels like a Sunday day trip—you have time to reflect on the past and the future while still being present in the moment.

What else can you tell us about the track, that we haven’t covered in this interview?

It’s probably the most positive moment on our album Ad Astra—but that’s something listeners will discover for themselves.
