‘They built skyscrapers where we used to play’
I just wanna scream, I am so utterly fed up and dispirited with this industry at times, but it is the music, the artistry that keeps me going.
My friends 50 Year Storm are back, their new single ‘Widow Of Reality’ is another weapon in their armoury that is already full of nail-bitingly exciting and weep for days compositions.
They have been working tirelessly, relentlessly to produce work that is destined for the vault of heaven. I do not say these words lightly, I say them with my full chest, and I stand by them, proudly. I do not deliberately seek to find fault; I approach music with an open mind. I appreciate the mutability, the engagement, and the conversation that the arts can spark.
For me, 50 Year Storm are proof that the industry does not offer a thorough examination of the creativity that it has at its fingertips. Time and again, you see bands come and go, they break under the pressure of the sometimes impossible expectations of an industry that really is not doing itself any favours.
‘come on death surprise me’
We are all widows of our own reality, imprisoned by online sagas, some have nothing to do with us, we are enamoured by opulence. We allow these images to gravely impact our lives and as a consequence we lose sight of what really matters.
As we hurtle towards year end, when I think I’ve heard everything, in chime Damon, Andy and Emma, confidently, boldly, KNOWING that they will have won my heart before close of business in this, the year of our Lord 2025.
Put your feet up my friends, it’s a double whiskey kind of evening.
