Some songs feel less like mere compositions and more like deeply personal voyages. Such is the case with late bloomer AC Scott’s debut single ‘Sometimes’ – a powerful statement of resilience and healing. It pays tribute to a chapter of acceptance following a life-altering health diagnosis, marks the beginning of her long-awaited musical journey, and celebrates the unexpected beauty found when self-discovery meets inner peace.
Originally known as a popular broadcaster, presenter, and most recently a novelist, Scott has long been immersed in the world of music. Yet it was only in the past two years that she turned to her lifelong passion: songwriting. What began as a private outlet has now blossomed into a public rebirth, with Sometimes’ being the first of a hundred songs she plans to share.
‘Something’ is therapy in song form – a farewell to the past and a courageous embrace of the future. After being diagnosed with a degenerative lung condition, Scott returned to her first love – music – during a writing retreat in her native Scotland. The result is a delicate piano ballad that quietly champions survival ,while reflecting on loss with melancholic grace.
Raised in Aberdeen with a strong instrumental foundation and musical influences ranging from Julia Fordham to Marianne Faithfull, Scott’s debut reveals a voice that is both timeless and wise. Drawing comparisons to the introspective songwriting of Carole King and Joni Mitchell, the track emerges as an earthy, dreamlike anthem from a woman who has finally found her path.
And this is just the beginning. Scott is set to release her debut album early next year, written in collaboration with Emmy Award-winning songwriter and producer Andrew Rollins. She invites listeners into a hypnotic meditation on transformation – culminating in the track’s poignant closing line: ‘And I will learn to love another day.’
