The wonderfully intimate and full-on Rock ‘N’ Roll Brickmakers pub and venue in Norwich welcomes Danny Wildheart And The UK Reprobates for their live debut.. First up is the fine hat trick of The Haunted Men, Load and the ever enjoyable Kid Klumsy. However, tonight is all about Danny, and as the classical intro music quiets, the band launches into The YoYos ‘Keepin’ On Keepin’ On’, blasting it out fast and hard, and suddenly it’s official, Danny McCormack is back. The Main Grains’ one-two of lead single ‘Unscrewed’ and ‘I’d Rather Be In California’ is followed by ‘Sunshine Girl’. The atmosphere inside is one of celebration, and there was a whole lotta love in the room.
‘Time Of Your Life’, and ‘We’re Happy Round Here’ give way to a new song, the Punk ‘N’ Roll bomber ‘Unsung Heroes’. The fresh-faced Danny, with the aid of the airtight Reprobates, crashes through ‘10,000 Miles’, plus the cowboy-esque ‘Who’s Got The Drugs’ and ‘Rock City’.
The (Danny co-written) Wildhearts ‘Anthem’ gets a proper Wildies sing-along before the final song of the night. The shiny, just-released and joyously anthemic ‘I Don’t Wanna Be Nobody Else’ only confirms that Danny Wildheart and The UK Reprobates have the tunes, attitude, and musicianship to make all the right moves. On a personal note, it was heartwarming to see Danny looking so fit, well and freshly shaved. We’ve been through alot since we started writing his autobiography, ‘I, Danny McCormack, Once A Wildheart, Always A Wildheart’ (which is still available via Cadiz Music). My overriding memory of this sweaty Rock ‘N’ Roll club gig was feeling an immense feeling of pride. God bless Danny McCormack, a true musical lifer, survivor and loveable rogue.
