John Fishell and Deepak Ram, West Meets East, Turned Inside Out

Forget everything you thought you knew about “fusion.” On October 10th, John Fishell and Deepak Ram are unleashing Notorious Partners in Crime.

The first taste, “Space Time”, is wild proof. Born from one of Ram’s instrumental pieces, it’s been twisted into a rock epic where impossible time signatures somehow feel effortless. Add in the powerhouse lineup, bassist Karine Chapdelaine, percussion wizard Jamey Haddad (Paul Simon), and drummer Brian McRae, and you’ve got a track that’s as unpredictable as it is addictive.

But that’s just the opening shot. Across the album, Ram’s bansuri flute and Fishell’s gritty songwriting spark against each other like flint and steel. What ties it all together is chemistry. Fishell calls it “like a fancy wine with a greasy cheeseburger.” Ram describes it as “perplexing and easy at the same time.” Together, they’ve created an album that’s as playful as it is as global.
