Ela Minus unveils ‘QQQQ’

Colombian producer and singer Ela Minus releases “QQQQ,” the final preview ahead of the release of DÍAher new album out this FridayJanuary 17th via Domino. On the heels of the “zippy, futuristic” (Stereogum) “house-techno banger” (Brooklyn Vegan“UPWARDS,” “QQQQ” (pronounced “q”) is a throbbing and mighty dance track for the end of the world. “QQQQ” captures disappointment and detachment with candor and gravity, reflecting the sense of self-reflection and private reckoning found throughout DÍA, as she sings “Lately I’ve been feeling / that we are all agreeing / this is the end / but if we are going to give up / might as well end it here / Let the world end now.”

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

If it’s going to be like this,
Let the world end.
Let the world end.

Lately I’ve been feeling
that we are all agreeing

this is the end
but if we are going to give up,
Might as well end it here.
Let the world end now.

If it’s going to be like this,
Let the world end.
If what I’m looking at is “it”
Let it all end.
Let it end here, right now.
Let the world end.
Let it end here, now.
Let it end here, now
Let it end here, now
Let the world end.

DÍA is a rare feat in electronic music, one where cutting-edge production and space-shuddering sonics meet a burgeoning singer-songwriter’s deeply introspective lyricism. Where her debut album acts of rebellion felt intentionally small, as if pounding inside the club with late-night reverie, DÍA is both honest and expansive, the wide sweep of its songs revealing more of Minus as person and producer than ever before. DÍA is a record about becoming, from a process that entailed self-discovery at a deliberate pace to songs that seem to collectively ask where we go from here, long after we’ve been broken but long before we intend to be broken forever.

Ela Minuswill kick offher upcoming tour this Friday, January 17th at a special homecoming release day show in Bogotá, Colombia at Planetario de Bogotá. A full list of upcoming dates can be found below, and tickets can be purchased here.
