Eve

Curb your enthusiasm on Christmas Eve
Gotta check my ammunition, I’ll take my leave
Through the silence
Through the violence
You’ll hear my roar
All the time asking what the red button’s for.
Smiling, shining
Night sky illumination
It’s the wrong place, wrong time
For this abomination
A projectile
Not tactile
At the speed of light,
A date with death
I’ll raise a glass to your health,
When it’s all over, they keep all the wealth.
There’s a need in greed
Too many mouths to feed.
So eliminate, exterminate
It’s never too little, it’s never too late.
Weapons at the ready
Powder dry, hand steady
There’s an excitement, you can’t deny it
All you want is peace and quiet.
With a head full of war
Do you hear the roar
Always asking what the red button’s for.
All this raging, raving
Daylight saving
Missiles for a night on the tiles
For less trouble and less strife
Don’t have a wife
You don’t need her in your head
When you take a life.

I promise it’ll be quick
I promise it won’t hurt
Just a short, sharp, scratch
And a thud as you hit the dirt
No distribution
No retribution
They laugh as we dig our graves,
They discharge
We’re destroyed
No more men, no more boys
Shelling everything I have
Punctuate our escape
No emergency raft.
Soon you’ll see no one gets the last laugh.
These rags for your titillation
I know you’ll kill me where I stand.
Reason enough for me let the missile land.
I won’t move, I wouldn’t dare
I like to see how you don’t care,
Not a drop of conscience
As panic hits the air.

Let’s fight for King and country
With missiles you go hungry
Line them up
Set them up
There’s venom in my hunch
Ready to launch
But if you take out the ‘a’ maybe we can have some lunch.
Tis the season to step out in style
No smiles in a missile
Only a message of an end
How I longed to be your friend,
Things went rogue
In the chocolate brogues
I opened up the door
All the time asking what the red button’s for.

Eventide, a fireside glow
Around the coffee table with those we know
A love was lost.
We got receipts so we’ll count the cost,
So we know we’re not alone
We walk into the great unknown
A tomorrow isn’t promised
For the depraved and dishonest
I’ve got work in the morning, so I’d best get home.
