Alone With The Moon

‘Sitting under the night sky, alone with the moon, hoping help will get here soon’.

Using the fabulously unorthodox backdrop of Punk Cabaret, I bring you the latest single from my friends Copperworm, our Warrington warriors are no strangers to being on the outside looking in. It is the artwork and some of the lyrics that reminded me of The Tiger Lillies, their singer Martin Jacques delivers the most exquisitely distraught and anguished cries, the desperate wailing is a stark attestation of ‘Angst’ a song that is tragic and permits a perspective that is wired differently, non-conformist in its essence. The protagonist sits quietly, alone with his thoughts, as a result of the war that is raging inside him.
Thriving in an ecosystem that has been suffocated into oblivion, Copperworm continue to deliver where it counts. They harbour an avant-garde work ethic; their intrinsic capacity for knowledge and application is far-reaching in its projection. Drawing parallels with The Tiger Lillies, I find that Copperworm take aspects of realism and afford them honesty and integrity rather than apply oils and paints to cover the ugliness. There is no use of euphemisms; they play hard ball, so make sure your constitution is suitably armoured.
From the outset they have managed to capture the importance and seriousness of the narrative. The portrayal of mental illness is accurate, a depiction of what happens when boundaries are crossed, and the welfare of human beings goes unchecked. The despondency and consequently the irremediable circumstances lead to untold devastation, in the fullness of time it is an inescapable sequence of events when you are not being heard.
The resonance is attributed to the astuteness of the drum, guitars and bass, courtesy of Neil, Jon and Nelson, there is depth, there is intensity, sounds that exhibit a vehemence, an aggression even. The vocals, HRH Peter Wolfe are full of conviction, availing structure and shape, which in turn entrusts a keen and insightful production as they work closely with the musicianship to showcase courage, drive and a twisted solidarity, laced with outrage.
For me, the music of Copperworm is an endless rabbit hole, I have voices that scream at each other in my head, they only lead me to wander, and as you know some girls wander by mistake.
