Today, Kat Von D announces her brand new album, My Side of the Mountain, alongside her latest single ‘Illusion.’ Taking the album name from the famous book ‘My Side of the Mountain,’ the forthcoming album from Kat explores themes of love and sobriety. Behind the scenes, she has been working towards finding peace amidst the chaos by focusing on her family and music. My Side of the Mountain will be released on September 20th and features guest vocals from Alissa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy and LA songwriter Ferras. Alongside this announcement, Kat has dropped a new music video for the single ‘Illusions.’ Listeners can pre-order the album and exclusive marble vinyl only at www.KatVonD.com

The music video for “Illusion” takes viewers on a visually stunning journey through the fields of Kat Von D’s hometown of Vevay, Indiana, as a personal reflection on lost love and those attached deep, often painful, and confusing emotions. Directed by Ryan Valdez (known for his work with Rise Against, Korn, Stone Sour), the video perfectly complements the single’s dark pop nuances and showcases Kat’s distinctive style.

“Illusion” was written by Kat Von D alongside respected songwriters Shep Solomon (Enrique Iglesias, Kelly Clarkson, Natalie Imbruglia, etc) and Fernando Garibay (Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, and Kylie Minogue). Her brand of disco goth is heavily influenced by synthwave, goth, new wave, post-punk, and other iconic electronic sounds of the 80s. Kat Von D writes music and lyrics that stem from her experiences of love, darkness, vulnerability and a chronicle of her life. She aims to captivate listeners with a mesmerizing musical style that seduces with its ethereal and romantically macabre charm. While the themes of her music may be dark, the music itself is unforgettable and will prove timeless.

“‘My Side Of The Mountain is a love letter for all of the hopeless romantics, the outsiders, and lonely hearts trying to find their place in this cold and divisive world.  When I was a kid, I read the 1959 novel My Side Of The Mountain and related so deeply to the little boy who ran away from home only to find comfort in isolation, self-reflection, and self-reliance in the wilderness.

There’s a comfort in dreaming of escapism, sure. But this album isn’t about that. It’s about confronting the shit we don’t want to face, accepting the things we can’t control, and fighting for the things that matter. This album is about my side of the argument. My side of the bed. My side of the line drawn in the sand. My side of the mountain.  And I hope it makes others who feel the same, a little less alone in this world.” – Kat Von D

Kat Von D has an impressive résumé. She has done everything from shaking up the tattoo industry to starring in hit TV shows, writing best-selling books, and creating a beauty empire. But before all of that, her first love was music. She poured her heart into melodies and songwriting before she became known for her work in tattoos and makeup. With a background in classical music and an eclectic appreciation for different genres, it’s clear that music has always been her passion. Now, she’s making waves in the goth/synthwave scene, and the critics love it.

Her music has been praised by Billboard, Loudwire, Consequence, Flaunt Magazine, Revolver Magazine, and others. Her latest track, ‘Illusion,’ is just another hit in her repertoire, following the success of her debut album, Love Made Me Do It, the Exorcisms EP, and recent singles “Dead” and “Vampire Love.” She’s not just a tattoo queen or makeup mogul—she’s a legit music powerhouse.
