Gimme those blues when they come from BluesmanDon!

Gimme those blues when they come from BluesmanDon!  High NRG Bluesy Folk   Rock that honours the music’s roots but with a twist.   His music is honest and heartfelt sourcing from his blue collar roots as a mechanic, lumberjack and paving equipment operator way up North in Calgary, Canada.  It’s the kinda Blues music that you would hear on a Friday night down at your local Pub, real, honest and relatable.  His latest music delves deep into what Blues Music is all about.   Bluesman Don gives you what’s behind each of the song.

Rise

This is a song about breaking free of the stigma of growing up surrounded by alcohol (and all substances) abuse.  It tears lives and relationships apart while those closest to you get complacent and would rather look the other way than deal with the root of the problem.  You get stereotyped, families get reputations.  You don’t have to be the things that people say you are, you can be more, you can rise.

Where the Cold Water Flows

This one is just a fun back to basics blues tune, heavy on the harmonica with a driving rhythm.  I grew up in the country (near Longview Alberta, Canada), with wide open spaces where you could do what you wanted unbothered.  Life takes over and I’m (conveniently) living in the city now.   I’m sick of it and just want to get back to my rural roots, back to where the cold water flows.

Flying Monkeys (Releases May 31st)

This song was hard for me because it’s deeply personal.   Often breaking ties with someone abusive can result in fallout within your family and social circle. Lines are drawn, sides are taken, and you learn just exactly who really cares enough not to believe the smear campaign.  As I’ve grown older, I’ve learned that sometimes it’s better to protect your peace than to try to prove your point.  For this song I wanted a raw acoustic sound to accompany honest heart-felt lyrics. The result is a mix of roots blues and country featuring acoustic slide on resonator guitar and my own my signature harmonica style.
