Birmingham and the West Midlands, the home of metal, known around the world for its unmatched legacy, for the artists that call this hotbed of talent their home, and known for their resilience and courage in an industry that is ruthless and unforgiving.
This centre of excellence is now proud to unite musicians, professionals and beginners, from all walks of life, to be part of what has been described as a ‘rock music extravaganza’ an opportunity for ordinary folk to get jiggy with it and unleash their inner rock star. It is an event that is open to everyone, you can bring your own instrument too or participate in singing, whatever you are comfortable with.
So, armed with my very limited talent I signed up to a workshop in Northfield and found my friend Jim, who I worked with at Supersonic Festival was there, I did not expect this at all, but was so happy to see him. It was a great mix of instrumentalists and singers, we started with a few warm-up exercises before we launched ourselves into the awesome ‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries, what a tune!
Under the watchful gaze of our tutor, Rodrigo Orquera, we learnt how to control our voices, be expressive in our body language and I tell ya, I used muscles I never knew I had. After the session, my face hurt, for professional artists that do this every day, I salute you, it is not easy.
There are workshops scheduled all across the Midlands, so if you would like to have a go, please sign up and join in the fun with this raggedy bunch of rag tag artists, Brum’s very own Mötley Crüe!
The event itself will take place on Sunday 14th July 2024, at the Forum, Dale End, Birmingham B4 7LS and is sure to be a phenomenal experience for everyone.
