Lake Malice recently released their crucial debut EP ‘Post-Genesis’ via SO Recordings, which includes their brand new single ‘Power Game’. With the track already spun on BBC Radio 1 and Kerrang! Radio, Malice have now revealed its suitably shadowy accompanying music video. Alice Guala (vocals) and Blake Cornwall (guitar / production) say “Power Game explores the theme of dealing with people who abuse their position of power. The dark and uneasy visuals of the music video empathise with the feelings of being lost and trapped when dealing with narcissistic and manipulative behaviour. With references to Immanuel Kant’s “moral laws”, the lyrics of the track explore the blurred line between right and wrong, in a setting where one individual tries to take control over people by gaslighting them. They then have to deal with the consequences of their own actions.”
Lake Malice have also announced their first full headline tour of the UK in March 2024, which will see them ignite the stages of 12 venues across the country with their powerful live presence, including the iconic Camden Underworld in London. Tickets are on sale now. 2023 has seen Lake Malice really hit the ground touring, with a schedule that’s included dates with the likes of As Everything Unfolds, Bloodywood, Skindred, Vukovi, Vended and Enter Shikari, as well as overwhelmingly energetic sets at festivals such as The Great Escape, Download, Misery Loves Company and 2000trees, at which Kerrang! proclaimed they “have no right to be burning this hot already.” Lake Malice’s unique splicing of hyperpop and metal also earned them two nominations at the Heavy Music Awards this year in the ‘Best UK Breakthrough Artist’ and ‘Best Breakthrough Live Artist’ categories.
‘Power Game’ follows a slew of incendiary tracks from Lake Malice over the past 18 months or so since their inception out of lockdown. These genre-splicing compositions include latest single ‘Mitsuko’ which also features on the EP and the band describe as “The pissed off love child of Linkin Park and Pendulum, wrapped up in the unfiltered aggression of Loathe.” The track is “a deeply personal and intense torrent of ‘full-on rage’, dealing with the complexities of family values, and raw emotions of a fragmented childhood. The title takes inspiration from the original ‘Battle Royale’ manga, where the character Mitsuko shares a similar struggle of family heartbreak and abandonment.” ‘Mitsuko’ has received airplay on BBC Radio 1 and Kerrang! Radio, as well as appearing on the Kerrang! Chart, Metal Hammer Tracks of The Week. The single also propelled the band to cover star status on Spotify playlist ‘misfits 2.0’ and snatched a much-coveted spot on the New Music Friday UK playlist, amongst a plethora of other features. ‘Post-Genesis’ includes other such previous singles as ‘Blossom’, ‘Black Turbine’, ‘Bloodbath’ and ‘Stop The Party’, which are all already firm live favourites.
