Re-staking her place as 2023’s pop-horror queen – HANNAH ROSE PLATT – is back with a chilling new EP: ‘Hypnagogia’.

A collection of songs as ripe for the season as a Halloween pumpkin, this 8-track collection was specifically written to coincide with Hannah’s upcoming tour of Scandinavia with Frank Turner. Each track on the ‘Hypnagogia’ EP has been directly inspired by the ghost stories and folklore of each city she will be visiting on the tour.
Describing the release as “an auditory horror show”, listeners can expect to hear stories of nightmare demonesses (“Mara”), monsters lurking underwater (“Beast In The Water”), the goddess of decay off for a night on the town (“Date Night”), and terrifying illuminations luring loved ones into the forest (“Blue Lights”).
Alongside four fully fleshed-out songs produced by Ed Harcourt, the upcoming ‘Hypnagogia’ EP will also boast four spoken-word interludes narrated by British acting talent and BAFTA nominee David Morrissey (Sherwood / The Long Shadow).
Speaking about the inspiration behind the ‘Hypnagogia’ EP and how it came together, Hannah Rose Platt says:
“To celebrate my first time visiting and performing in Scandinavia this October (and my love of Halloween and spooky season!) I spent the recent heatwave with the curtains closed, soaking up the rich, magical, darkness of Scandinavian horror folklore! I’ve conjured up four new dark narratives in celebration of the turn of the season and teamed up once again with musical warlock Ed Harcourt to bring you ‘Hypnagogia’ – featuring the dulcet tones of esteemed actor David Morrissey; acting as our very own Vincent Price.”

Tipping its crooked hat to the works of David Lynch and Tim Burton, the ‘Hypnagogia’ EP is a musical mixed-bag of tricks and treats that serves as a wonderfully creepy companion piece to her acclaimed 2023 album: ‘Deathbed Confessions’ (out now on Xtra Mile Recordings).
‘Deathbed Confessions’ was released in the Spring of 2023. Also produced by Ed Harcourt, it comprised a collection of ghoulish ghost stories, melodious murder ballads, and humorous hammer-horrors. Inspired by classic horror such as Rod Serling’s ‘The Twilight Zone’, the BBC’s ‘Inside No 9’, and the balladeer categories of Samuel Peyps’; Platt distilled them all into this scintillatingly strange album. Featuring the singles “Feeding Time For Monsters”, “Dead Man On The G Train” and the spellbinding duet “The Mermaid & The Sailor”(with Ed Harcourt)’.
Receiving warm reviews across the board, ‘Deathbed Confessions’ was praised by The Crack as “twelve murder-ballad tales that are dripping in gothic stylings”, whereas Americana UK hailed the record as a glimpse into future greatness, enthusing “a resounding success and one that should see Platt’s trajectory as an artist and songwriter rise to the next level” (8/10).
