Genre-bending pop/rock trio Waterparks have unveiled their anxiously awaited new single entitled “SNEAKING OUT OF HEAVEN”. The song notably marks the trio’s first new music since the release of their fifth full-length studio album, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY last spring.
Once again, Waterparks break boundaries and surprise fans at every turn on their latest upbeat anthem. A propulsive beat catalyzes the song’s groove as glitchy electronics accent the production. Meanwhile, frontman Awsten Knight’s confessional and clever lyrics take center stage as he promises, “If you’re toxic, I’ll wear a HAZMAT. Do you think God knows you’ve been sneaking out of heaven? Like were his eyes closed?” The accompanying visual seamlessly translates this energy to the screen.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY was released in April, and debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales Chart and No. 33 on the Billboard 200. The LP also marked the band’s highest charting album in the UK to date, debuting at No. 10. KERRANG! raved, “INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY is both an excellent deep-dive into one of rock’s most charismatic stars, and another compelling addition to a discography that always succeeds in bringing something fresh to the table.” Rock Sound hailed it as “incredible” and touted the band for a cover story. EUPHORIA. rated it “4.5-out-of-5 stars” and attested, “INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY is quintessential Waterparks. It perfectly melts all of their eras together, something that will only elevate their career, and finds them taking a bold step in the right direction. All that’s left to say is that Waterparks haven’t missed a single mark with this one but we think they already know that.” Grading it “4.5-out-of-5 stars” as well, New Noise Magazine summed it up best, “If you have not listened to Waterparks already, this album will make you want to float their way.” Across the album, the pop-rock trio proves they might just be the biggest band of tomorrow. To understand why, you have to go back to the beginning. Their 2011 formation cemented the union of three distinct personalities. Raised somewhere in between the iPod generation and the first wave of social media – Awsten Knight [vocals, guitar], Otto Wood [drums], and Geoff Wigington [guitar] – occupy a diverse, yet unified creative crossroads. With influences running the gamut of Linkin Park, Every Time I Die, and Balance & Composure, to Donald Glover, One Direction, and Ke$ha, the trio move forward with a blatant disregard for the rules. Comprised of an eclectic batch of infectious, dynamic anthems, there’s something for everyone on the new record. As always, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY is meant for the people comprising this greater movement—like everything Waterparks do. Stream/download the new album HERE. Waterparks’ magnetic pull has attracted a growing cohort of devoted fans who pack sold out shows, stream their songs like hell, and have even elevated the group to multiple Billboard charts as they’ve headlined the Sad Summer Festival and accompanied My Chemical Romance on a sold out arena tour last year. With INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, the three-piece step into an elevated sound and enhanced aesthetic that builds upon their half a billion career streams, widespread touring success, and major festival appearances at Reading & Leeds, Slam Dunk, among others. Next up, Waterparks head to Vegas in the fall to play When We Were Young festival before crossing the pond for an extensive tour of the UK and Europe.
