‘They will prosper while we suffer’.
So, I was on a merry frolic through Metalworld, when suddenly I felt an almighty THWACK! across the back of my head, I fell to the ground, a bit fuzzy headed I slowly turned to look up, rubbing my sore noggin, and well I’ll be damned, it was Cryptopsy saying hello, long time no see fellas! Our Canadian cousins have come back in from the cold to tell us what we are all doing wrong, with this seething mass of twisted Death Metal that is the thirst quencher we’ve been waiting for. Having been in the business since 1988, Cryptopsy know a thing or two about life and music and everything in between. The new single ‘In Abeyance’ dramatises our lives; what we have been left with or without after the stresses of recent years. The band are Flo Mounier – drums, Christian Donaldson – guitars, Matt McGachy – vocals and Olivier Pinard on bass, all pulling together to secure the release of a new album in September. With this single we remember what we have lost, and we endeavour to engage with what our future may be. The video is a monochromatic, jarring and scarring episode, with bursts of colour to accentuate the lyrics and composition, chaotic, turbulent and burnished to perfection. We talk about our dreams, our inherently possessive and doomed visions, how we react and reluctantly accept our fate.
Steeped in history, with the frenzied fretwork, guttural vocals and stupendous drums that lead us forward, gleefully and full of optimism. The Cryptopsy carriage awaits, all aboard to salvation, a little glorious and a little uproarious.
With matters pending, I’ll leave you to your thoughts, the book of suffering once again opened for your scrutiny.
