Belgian alt-rock band The Guru Guru are pleased to reveal the official video for their tense, melodic new single ‘Saint-Tropez’ which is released on 4th July 2023 on all good streaming services. The track is the latest to be taken from their new album Make (Less) Babies which will be released on 27th October 2023 via Swiss label Humus Records in collaboration with French label A Tant Rêver Du Roi Records, with the band revealing the artwork and tracklist today. The album is available to preorder now: https://theguruguru.bigcartel.com/Commenting on the track, which takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the effects of the cost of living crisis on the super rich, vocalist Tom “the Bomb” Adriaenssens says: “What if the super rich had money problems? Prices go up, what consequences does it have for them? I was born in a warm and wealthy home, at the ‘right’ place, at the ‘right’ time. I’m just very lucky. Privileged. I always try to remain aware of that.” “One way to do so is to always try and imagine what other people’s lives are like. What are their dreams? What are their worst fears? What keeps them up at night? Is the grass greener on their side? I’m sure I’m not the only person in the world who does this mental exercise. Nonetheless I feel that many people get alienated from reality, partially due to the new media. Got enough money? Buy everything you need. Your life will never be perfect, though. That’s what these lyrics try to illustrate.”Happily dealing in deep express art rock since 2012, The Guru Guru combine feverishly angular guitars with off-kilter poly-rhythms, all complimented by Adriaenssens’ trademark erratic and unhinged vocals. While their influences are drawn from the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead, The Mars Volta, SOULWAX, The Jesus Lizard, and Andy Kaufman, the indie-math/psycho-noise rulebooks are decidedly torn apart, resulting in turbulent songs that somehow seem to develop into wriggling earworms.Forthcoming new album Make (Less) Babies was recorded by The Guru Guru at Farrm Studio, Hasselt with assistance from Jasper Vanden Bossche. The album was mixed by guitarist Emiel Van Den Abbeele and mastered by Laurens Grossen Mastering. Lead single ‘Lotta Tension’ was released earlier this year and received early support from PROG Magazine, Noizze, Bring The Noise, Soundsphere Magazine, and more.Recently gracing the stage at PORTALS festival in London, the band will be appearing at Burn It Down and ArcTanGent Festival in the UK later this year, with further live dates to be announced (see below for listings).Further live dates and album details TBA.
