Interview: Michael Webster

When did the initial idea for your latest single come together?

I initially wrote “future sight” around 6 years ago now, it came to me all at once in one sitting which was real lovely, it’s always great when a song flows well. I had the original fingerpicking progression for a while, and managed to get the lyrics real quick!

How would you describe the track, to a reader that is unfamiliar with the band?

It’s very much a calm, Bob Dylan / folky style track, very deadpan and lyrically descriptive.

Can you tell us a bit more about the meaning behind the track?

I wrote it about moving to the “big city”, away from the town I grew up in – it’s got a lot of references to my childhood and personal life! The title “future sight” is actually from a Pokemon move, a game I played loads of when I was growing up.

How would you say that the track compares to anything you’ve done before?

It’s much more singer-songwritery, and folky. I put out a lot of alternative rock style tracks in the past and it’s a lot more calm and mellow compared to that!

What was the hardest part about putting it together, and why?

It was real easy to put it together really, the ideas for the production came to me instantly, I knew exactly how I wanted it to sound from the get-go! I think the hardest part may have been just realising that the minimal element of production was the one for it!

Why should a reader check out the track?

It’s a real insight into the life of michael webster, and a lovely balance to the chaos and power of some of my other songs!

What else can you tell us about the track, that we haven’t covered in this interview?

I recently put out a music video for it, I filmed it between where I live now, in Manchester, and back in my hometown of Leyland!
