Hello my friends, I’m back for a little while as I have half term holidays, so you’ll find me remaining in my home town to celebrate the new single from our very own Grunge mutha, MeMe Detroit, aka Maria Rodriguez, an extraordinary character, full of life and love transmitting a productive and positive aura through her abundant musical knowledge and nous, a veritable tour de force if I may say so.
We hear her version of events in ‘Roaring At The Preachers’ taking misogyny, hatred, religious strife and sanctimony, and everything else that is so poisonous out of our system and giving it a much needed deep clean. The toxic air and ether, the murk and dust, the ugliness are all booted out to the sound of battle drums and bass, huge guitars and that roar at 0.37 leaves you refreshed after being steeped in frowstiness, leading into that sugar sweet chorus that is attractive and interactive, demanding your attention and invoking a response. It’s got that 80’s vibe of the Grunge era, but I also get a little Cosmic Psychos, that slightly demented edge and also a hefty kick of JJ72, which is instrumental in the whole structure and delivery.
A brilliant way for me to resume my review work, an exciting and heedful single that lets MeMe throw her societal hat in the ring, where she will tough it out with the rest of them, and by crikey are we in for a treat, my money’s on MeMe for the last person standing, no fanfare, no flourish just a furious and fiery assault straight outta Brum and into your cranial cavity. Saddle up amigos, we ride at dawn.
