Dan Croll releases his fourth studio album ‘Fools’ today through Communion Records alongside the stunning title track + a colourful illustrated video by Thomas Bryson-King

After cementing himself with a flurry of highly-praised singles in recent months, including Second GuessTalk To You“, “‘How Close We Came and Slip Away, Dan Croll has now released his eagerly-awaited fourth studio album ‘Fools’ alongside the dreamy title-track.

His new album ‘Fools’ finds Dan Croll at a crossroads, documenting recent events with warmth and wit to help him decide which direction to take. Five years after leaving his beloved Liverpool for sun-soaked L.A., a move made on a whim, which transformed his sound, ‘Fools’ poses a fundamental question – is it finally time to come home?

Speaking about the new record, he said, “Incredibly proud and excited to release my new album Fools today. This marks my fourth album, and with each release it’s been satisfying to look back over the journey. This one in particular was a challenge, especially at the start, as most of the songs were written during covid and the decline of my relationship. Despite wanting to throw in the towel many times, the slight feeling of normality creeping back into the world and the support of so many great friends kept me in it, and I’m thrilled to be able to release it today.

“As with the last few releases, these songs wouldn’t be what they are without the amazing band of musicians in Richmond, Virginia, where the album was recorded, and the incredibly supportive team of Terra Cotta and Communion.”

Accompanied by its vibrant title-track, the single ‘Fools’ wraps up what has already been a warm and compassionate journey for Croll so far this year. Coming to terms with his circumstances post-pandemic, he finds himself in a renewed sense of self as he looks to the future and the possibilities it holds. The accompanying music video for ‘Fools’ is a suitably fun and colourful affair illustrated by Thomas Bryson-King. Watch HERE

The sumptuous ‘Fools’, Dan’s fourth album, follows 2020’s ‘Grand Plan’, a critical hit which captured his early experiences of life in L.A. and effortlessly exchanged his synth-pop of the past for sepia-tinged folk rock with Laurel Canyon leanings.

‘Fools’ jumps forward through Covid to the end of an intense three year relationship, the death of Dan’s grandmother back in Britain, and rare trips home as restrictions lifted. Sonically it spreads its net wider — country, disco and woozy psychedelics join the Carole King and James Taylor nods on ‘Grand Plan’.

Both albums were recorded largely live at Montrose Recording and Spacebomb Studio in Richmond, Virginia, with Spacebomb’s Matthew E. White (Natalie Prass, Flo Morrissey, Slow Club) and his legendary four-piece house band. This time, Dan co-produced, tinkering with sounds late into the night to add his own stamp to the record.
