EP Review: Black Coast – Black Coast EP

After the release of their debut album last year, Stoke-On-Trent’s Black Coast recently announced “Black Coast EP” planned for release at the end of next month. This is a follow-up EP to showcase their mix of heavy and melodic music, creating a sound that is both powerful and emotional.

The EP opens with “Real (are you listening?),” a track that sets the tone for the rest of the album with its hard-hitting guitar riffs and aggressive vocals. The song is a fast-paced, adrenaline-fueled ride that is sure to get your heart racing. The chorus is particularly memorable, with a catchy melody that will stay with you long after the song has ended.

“Chains” is another standout track on the EP, with another mix of heavy metal and softer, almost pop-like elements. The song opens with a clean guitar riff before launching into a full-blown metal assault, complete with thunderous drums and intense vocals. The chorus is once again a highlight, with a soaring melody that is both beautiful and haunting.

The EP’s third track, “Sex,” slows things down a bit, with a more melodic and atmospheric sound. The song features some of the band’s most impressive guitar work, with intricate riffs and solos that show the band’s technical proficiency. The vocals are also noteworthy, with a more restrained performance that adds to the song’s emotional impact.

“Mercy” comes next, the single that the nu-metal band released alongside the announcement of the EP. The song showcases the band’s ability to craft a catchy melody while maintaining a heavy and aggressive sound. The lyrics express a sense of desperation and the need for redemption, adding an emotional depth to the energetic instrumentation.

The EP’s final track, “No One,” is perhaps its most powerful. The song is a slow burn, starting off with a depressing guitar riff before building to an exciting finish. The chorus has a massive impact, with a lonely melody that perfectly captures the song’s sense of despair and loss. The lyrics are particularly moving, touching on themes of isolation and abandonment.

Black Coast have not disappointed to follow up their debut album. The EP showcases the band’s ability to blend heavy metal with melodic elements. The vocals are impressive from Charlie Hewitt, with a range that spans from aggressive screams to more restrained, emotive performances. The lyrics are equally impressive, touching on themes of loss, isolation, and the struggle to find meaning in a world that can often seem bleak and unforgiving.

Black Coast EP is set for release April 28.
