Ida Mae team up with Marcus King on the bluesy new single “When Eden Was My Girl”

Following on from the release of their highly-acclaimed 2021 second LP Click Click Domino, which was supported by WONDERLAND, Rolling Stone, The Independent, The Guardian, CLASH, Under The Radar, NME Radio, American Songwriter, Songwriting Magazine and many more, British duo Ida Mae now team up with Marcus King for the bluesy new single “When Eden Was My Girl”.

Marking their first piece of new material since their newest studio album, “When Eden Was My Girl” finds the blues-rock pair in confident form throughout. With the added addition of Marcus King’s distinctive influence driving the track forward, their latest endeavour sees them continue their vibrant ascent with style and aplomb.

Adding about their new offering, they said, “Written in a haze as we finished ‘Click Click Domino’, we wanted this song to be a simple, raw, deep groove. Cut live to our 1970s drum machines we had our friends Ethan Johns, Marcus King and Nick Pini overdub their parts after.

“We wanted two lead protagonists, two voices male and female and for that to be echoed in my and Marcus’s lead guitar lines. Lyrically I was imagining Nick Cave writing his own, darker version of ‘I Can’t Quit You Babe’ by Otis Rush…with Jack White and JJ Cale chipping in a few words and licks here and there.

“Me and Marcus stood side by side in the basement of our Nashville home with two 5w Fender Champ amplifiers. We took two passes, what you hear from the duelling lead guitars is completely improvised on the spot. It’s always a huge honour and pleasure to make music with Marcus.”

Having previously supported the likes of Allison Krauss, Willie Nelson, Greta Van Fleet, The Marcus King Band and many more and they even opened the main stage at the illustrious Newport Folk Festival, Ida Mae’s new single also coincides with a string of live dates supporting Marcus King throughout the rest of March.
