Feral horde Jesus Piece come crashing through the doors at Century Media, brandishing their new single ‘An Offering To The Night’ and an air of trepidation descends, like a velvet shroud. Take a gander at the video – reminds me of something Korn might do- as the band, dive and bound over the screen, armed with an artillery of harshness, the vibe is one of power, rage and hostility. There is a claustrophobic aspect; the result is effective and galvanic. Yet underneath all the abrasiveness, there is a relationship that is worth our attention, worth our efforts in nurturing.
Dispelling any myths, they are a cross genre cohort of Punk/Metalcore and flashes of Urban beats, they are an embodiment of chaos and camaraderie.
There is a volcanic drum introduction that, like a meat tenderiser, clobbers you about the head, merciless in its quest, accurate in its target. Words that lacerate as we learn that ‘mercy don’t live here anymore’ but then where the fuck are we supposed to go? The quintet responsible for this firecracker are Aaron Heard- vocals, David Updike- guitars, John DiStefano – guitars, Anthony Marinaro – bass and Luis Aponte on drums.
Fearless, they launch themselves on an unsuspecting public, aggression in their voice, a heated exchange, nevertheless a warranted and legitimate reason to take notice of this rabid bunch. Maybe we have been complacent, we need reminding of what is important, hang on to these guys like your life depends on it, because believe me it does.
