So, my friends we meet again and today I bring you the new offering – ahem- from Autopsy, those slice and dice merchants from across the pond. With acts of unspeakable horror spoken here quite eloquently, well, as eloquent as Death metal can get, words that make you heave, conjuring up the most graphic images in your beaten brain. Talking of which we start with ‘Stab The Brain’ and it’s straight out of the gates my friends, just enjoy the agony of shredded knuckles and elbows. There is much to graze on here, satisfying and death defying.
A vision of the apocalypse is next with ‘Final Frost’, instead of a fireball engulfing the earth, we all freeze, very cool I’d say. Next up is the first of a few trips into the world of cinema, we investigate The Crate from the Creepshow series and get up close to ‘The Voracious One’ greed like you’ve never known it. Yum!
‘Tapestry Of Scars’ is a look at how scars and other inflictions can be seen as body art, a contrasting view on what would be considered and accepted as societal norms.
Atreyu gave us ‘Lead Sails, Paper Anchor’ and now Autopsy give us a more grotesque scenario with ‘Knife Slice, Axe Chop’ again horror flick inspired set to abrasive, shin kicking riffs that detonate every atom in your body, penetrative and expressive. Complete with stellar artwork from the hugely impressive Wes Benscoter, you get the music, the image, the whole enchilada at your rusty fingertips.
A brush with real life, we have ‘Skin By Skin’ a tale of preying on the vulnerable, very appropriate considering ‘Dahmer’ is on the television now. Reading the lyrics ‘skin by skin, you’ve been chosen’ “shudders”, you get the idea and the accurate presentation of the darker side of life. We hark back to Poltergeist with ‘Maggots In The Mirror’ these songs take us to notable scenes in the movies.
This is a great example of creatives honing their skills, developing their talents to produce work that reflects their own experiences, engaging with an audience already on its knees after the pandemic, and also reminding us that songs can be abstract and unique, they don’t need to follow a pattern or pre-determined template, words are to be used how we see fit. Sometimes it is the most random of ideas that will lead to opening that door and inviting new listeners to your table.
Now, I’ll just while away to some silent morbidity, if you don’t mind.
