Following the enormous success behind her recent demos ‘The Woman In Me‘ and Medication, which saw support from Official Charts, Songwriting Magazine, Blogtheque, Record of the Day, Hot Press and Golden Plec to name a few, emerging Irish singer and songwriter Lucy McWilliams has now unveiled the captivating official video for her latest single Break My Own Heart.
Directed by Julia George, the new video for ‘Break My Own Heart’ aims to illustrate the warm yet passionate yearning the original recording exudes. Marking her first set of visuals in her career to date, McWilliams overcomes her camera shyness to deliver a beautifully fresh and cinematic performance of her vibrant new offering.
Adding about the visuals, she said, “We had loads of fun making this video! I did it with my friends back home in Dublin; they’re so so talented and all literally my best friends. We didn’t really have a plan[for it], or if we did, we didn’t use it, just ran around and had fun!
“I’m always so uncomfortable around the camera so I feel so lucky that I had all of them with me for my first video!”
Lucy McWilliams has already taken the stage at numerous UK and Ireland festivals throughout 2022, and is also set to perform at Ireland Music Week from the 4th-7th October later this year.
Lucy McWilliams is a 22-year-old singer-songwriter from Dublin, who went to University in Berlin, but now lives in London. Lucy has released a string of singles since 2020 which have amassed over 13 million streams on Spotify alone.
Since then, Lucy has spent 2021 and the beginning of 2022 honing her sound with friend and frequent collaborator, producer: Charlie Hugall. The result so far has been two demos released in May and June this year: ‘The Woman in Me’ and ‘Medication’ which both tapped into Lucy’s vulnerability as a writer. While ‘The Woman in Me’ speaks to having different versions of yourself which you may not necessarily like, ‘Medication’ is about the emotions accompanied with losing someone who struggled with their mental health issues. Lucy’s lack of fear to delve into difficult topics is what allows authenticity to shine through her artistry.
She has also spent the past year performing for audiences in London, Paris, Dublin and much more. Lucy ended 2021 supporting Arlo Parks at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire and the first half of 2022 has seen her take stage at The Great Escape, Oberkampf Festival in Paris as well as recently playing back-to-back shows supporting Jake Isaac at Woolwich Works plus playing Ireland’s All Together Now Festival. As 2022 moves into its final months of the year, well see Lucy release more new music as she looks to continue to grow her audience.
