SPINN to release album of Indie-Pop perfection Outside of the Blue

SPINN will be releasing their second album Outside of the Blue on 4 February 2022 via Modern Sky UK. The quartet of Liverpool daydreamers are returning with a creative and sonically stimulating 11-track collection inspired by profound Buddhist teachings, such as: “avoid evil, do good and purify the mind,” with frontman Johnny Quinn having found solace in meditation and mindfulness over the last 18 months.

Outside of the Blue is the follow-up to the group’s 2019 self-titled debut, which saw the band on a sold-out UK tour with slots at Reading & Leeds and Truck, followed by their biggest headline show to date in Tokyo.

The upcoming record can be split into two distinct spheres, where its 11 songs either fall into; ‘the blue’, which represent periods of anxiety and depression, or ‘the other side’ a place filled with colour, opportunity and optimism. Lush, languid guitar pop throughout builds a sense of warmth and eternal hope, accompanied by the band’s nuanced commentary about their own experiences with anxiety, depression, the power of love (and loving someone) as well as disillusionment with the government.

Speaking more on the story behind title track ‘Outside of the Blue‘ frontman Johnny commented: “Outside Of The Blue” acts as a lynchpin sonically and thematically. Written in the immediate aftermath of a panic attack, following a drive down to Birmingham to work on material for the album, the lyrics poured out in just half an hour. Instead of embodying that place of anguish it’s filled with light and an appreciation of unconditional love. It’s about how appreciative you become of the good things in life when you realise you have them, and how you’d do anything for that.”

Outside of the Blue sees SPINN diving deeper lyrically and thematically than ever before, stretching for poppier new stratospheres that makes for an easy listening experience bursting with bliss. SPINN‘s latest release is a feel-good kind of therapy for the soul that is not to be missed.

SPINN will be playing an extensive UK tour in April and May – including a hometown headline show at Liverpool’s O2 Academy. Click here to bag your tour tickets.
