Multi-award winning Elles Bailey releases ‘The Game’: the fourth single from her eagerly awaited album ‘Shining in the Half Light’, due for release on 25th February, 2022.
‘The Game’ follows breezily in the successful footsteps of ‘Cheats and Liars’ (premiered on Radio 2) and ‘Sunshine City’ with each becoming the most played track on Planet Rock for multiple weeks.
It’s an upbeat, foot-tapping, full of life track that opens with Elles’ band simply having a blast, laying down solid, engaging riffs and rhythms which form the textured, backdrop for Elles’ acclaimed vocals with their distinctive smoky timbre, depth, and power. The result is a zesty, empowering, riff-based roots rocker that shows just how skilfully Ms Bailey can transcend the genre lines between blues, roots and americana.
Elles co-wrote every new track on ‘Shining in the Half Light’, working with a rich array of collaborators. She speaks with a smile about how she came to write this particular song: “I’ve been writing with Ashton Tucker and Will Edmunds independently for years now, but this was our first co-write all together. And what a collaboration! The Game is one of my favourite tracks on the record. It’s full of swagger and the band are simply cooking on it!”
Elles recorded the album in isolation in Devon, with her band: Joe Wilkins on guitar, Jonny Henderson on ivories, Matthew Waer on bass, and Matthew Jones on drums. The album was produced by Dan Weller (best known for his long working relationship with Enter Shikari).
2022 looks to be a bright year for Elles, building on the solid foundation of her best-selling, award-winning albums, and her passionate commitment to live music and touring.
Planet Rock have included Shining in the Half Light’ in their albums to look forward to for 2022 and RushonRock included Elles in their hot list- 10 to watch in 2022.
In the words of Simon Rushworth:
“Rushonrock-approved blues, rock and soul songstress Elles Bailey has been building up to latest album Shining In The Half Light for five years or more. And while she’s hardly a newcomer, this will surely be the year when the brilliant Bristolian blasts into the mainstream and makes the rock world sit up and take notice. Multi-award winner Bailey drops her most assured set yet on February 25 and from what we’ve heard so far it’s a seismic step forward.”
