Master storyteller Richard Lynch starts 2022 right where he
left last year off, with yet another great Country song that
showcases the narrative nature of this songwriting machine.
“Radio Friend” is another tribute piece that has become an
almost signature approach for Richard Lynch. This time the
tribute is for the late radio broadcaster, and great friend of
Richard’s, Ray “Chubby” Howard. It was a comment that his other
pal, DJ Gary Cohn, made during his last broadcast which struck
Richard as inspiring and thought-provoking, and one he had to
put into song; “If I don’t see you on the air, I will see
you in the air.” This has become the focal point of this
touching story, put to a traditional Country music structure, a
structure that allows the vocals to create tension with each
passing cadence, yet resolves with Richard Lynch’s higher register
articulations which satisfies the phrase and carries the momentum
into the next section. “Radio Friend” is a compliment piece,
as Richard has also penned a heartfelt tribute to the late
Doug Supernaw, and his most inspiring influence is his
“Grandpappy”. This effective use of narrative and prose allows
Richard to intertwine his faith into his music while showcasing
his dynamic songwriting abilities, adding metaphor and imagery
into each piece he composes.
“Radio Friend” is a highly enjoyable track, a perfect follow-up
to Richard Lynch’s dynamic and complete album, “My Guitar Drips
Country.” As a new single, slated for a new album release
later this year, “Radio Friend” is aptly timed as a satisfying
tie-over until this new album is ready. With a veteran
approach to this track, Richard Lynch is able to deliver
another complete project which fully entertains his audience
while increasing anticipation and demand for new material. The
production on “Radio Friend” is well-executed as an independent
release with a major label sound. The frequencies are separated
across the listening spectrum and blended to allow each
overtone to ring out crisp and clear, giving “Radio Friend” a
very full sound, one we have come to expect from this artist.
“Radio Friend” would be an excellent addition to any commercial
Country radio playlist, as the infectious chorus and beautiful
melodies offer fans everything a pop song should appeal to.
