So back in November when the UK battened down the hatches a group of intrepid explorers embarked on a tour of the country, not for a minute perturbed by the raging weather. Led by my friends Amongst Liars who used this experience to demonstrate their heartfelt worry and concern as to the state of our nation. Focusing on homelessness, they wrote this single ‘Truth’ as a channel to raise much needed funds for Shelter. Why we are still discussing this topic in 2021 I will never understand, yet here we are. Once again, our artists use their platform to vent their anger and keep important issues in the limelight, so unlike the morally bankrupt that walk among us. At least we had somewhere to go once the tour was over, but what of those left to face the bitterly cold days and nights under the stars? We attempt to find some answers, or at least some comfort with this mid-tempo number that skips along to a video that gives a summary of the tour and all that entails. The words are a stark reminder of our lives and how we assimilate our own truth. How we face what hurts us and how we acknowledge it and move on. The music here is evocative of a desire to find home, that one word that seals the deal for many of us. The gentle strumming that keeps the track alive and sweet tempo change at 1.35 are what I came here for. Losing family ties is a hurtful scenario, find that awareness and subtlety here. It entrenches a yearning that all will be ok, but it takes guts to delve that deep into the psyche of strangers. Amongst Liars have accepted the challenge that they will care, that they will reach out and no one gets left behind. A genuine bunch of lads who do not fear reproach and who offer a heartfelt reciprocity, they stand tall amidst the grassroots music scene. With a full-length album on the horizon, there is much to look forward to.
