South Dakota-based Rock artist Kyle Pfeiffer, better known as Blacklite District, is gearing up to end 2021 with a bang with his upcoming LP 1990 which is dropping on December 31, 2021.
Having previously experimented in alternative rock and hip-hop genres, Blacklite District’s new LP 1990 is a fully-fledged rock focused gem. Exploring personal struggles and experiences, the LP is a remedy for those in need of an outlet of comfort who are going through similar tough times.
The single ‘Gotta Get Outta Here’ which premiered on 14 October 2021, leans heavily into Pfeiffer’s rock roots, and opens 1990 with full-throttle and thrust, setting the tone for 1990‘s attack on pain.
The LP’s second track ‘Clear Skies,’ released a month later on 26 November 2021, speaks of the death of Pfeiffer’s mother at a young age. Pfeiffer began penning lyrics for the track at age 17, with the song’s central theme of a perspective shift influencing the writing journey, molding the song to tackle how he grew with the heartbreak of loss. Mixing the contrasting longing of melancholic guitar with a fresh outlook, a parting from pain as a liberation of sorts is found with the clear skies appearing, “No more waiting for the storm to come, looks like clear skies.”
1990 handles darkness with an uplifting, rocky sound that carries lost souls through the stormy times and towards light, with its infusion of raw emotion and honesty. The band commented on the success of ‘Gotta Get Outta Here,’ giving thanks to their fans:
The response to ‘Gotta Get Outta Here’ has absolutely blown my mind. First and foremost, I have to give the biggest shoutout to my fanbase for all of their support. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them, and I certainly wouldn’t have this new album coming out. It feels good to get things to a point where you can create art for yourself and your fans, without having to worry about commercial performance. That’s what recording 1990 was all about.
