Right on cue for Bonfire Night our Queen Vee jumps headfirst into the perpetual furnace that is inequality for women. The battle rages on my friends and not wanting to stray too much into it here, women are still faced with derogatory comments about their appearance, their abilities and dropped from a height when their work is mentioned. The ‘get back in the kitchen brigade’ is still out in full force, which is why it is imperative that people continue to push this important message forward. Verity White is a leading lady and indeed a leading light, always fascinating to talk to and a breath of fresh air. Together with her husband Alex they bring their contribution ‘Another Angle’ to the table, it bounces along gently, with a tranquillity and shimmer that belies its scathing and scalding delivery, a burn that singes and sizzles your unsuspecting skin.
Listen closely to a track that deals with a topic that should have been put to bed by now and ask yourself what is it that we as women still lack? The lyrics ‘I don’t need your opinion; I don’t need your approval’ are straight from the heart and are fortified with intelligence and a tangible pain. The impermanence of life itself should be reason enough to allow women a level playing field. Vee has a unique voice, gentle, unassuming, yet rebellious and on the offensive, effective enough to communicate without fear. The melody is a smooth Rock groove, connecting all emotions and ideas so to impart a shared wisdom, a shared philosophy and a shared authority at a time of deep division and struggle. Use ‘Another Angle’ as a broom to brush away all the detritus and as a detonator to send all the naysayers crashing through the floor. It’s time to fix up or face the continued wrath of the female of the species.
My friends, this firecracker is not just for Bonfire Night, it’s effervescence and incandescence should prevail well into the future that belongs to us all.
