Single Review: Amongst Liars – Kill The Tide/Crucify

Time and Tide

My friends you find me once again with Amongst Liars, a band of Southern beaus who are set to embark upon a caper that will be their debut UK tour, an expedition that has been eagerly awaited by all and hand crafted by the friendly folk at Reach 360 Promotions (hi Andy). Working with fairness and equality at their core, they have consistently pushed forward this message through their music. A brand spanking -ahem- new single ‘Kill The Tide’ is in response to our growing anxiety and how we must jettison the toxicity in our lives and put our energy and attention on the positives. It is with this attitude that we can emerge as better people and do better things with our lives.   We are also treated to a B-side ‘Crucify’ which  uses the societal, familial, and professional decrepitude to analyse, criticise and then hopefully resuscitate what is good and worth fighting for. Both songs give us the classic guitar driven rock, tub-thumping bass and drums and riffs to make your eyes water. The trajectory is unequivocally upwards, sheer determination and wit to pull off tasks that are monumental, like most artists these guys too are juggling daily routines to earn money to fund the music work. In ‘Crucify’ you’ll find the ‘look what you’ve done’ baseball bat chant, that bashes you over your unsuspecting noggin, hoping to awaken the common sense particles that have been sleeping these last eighteen months.  As for that rather tasty midsection twang, yum! A deliriously good double act that will sort the men from the boys and the wheat from the chaff, and I for one will predict a veritable constellation of choruses in the debut album.

‘When your heart’s not in it, your head’s on fire’ these words, right here, brutal as they may be, have honesty, fortitude and a yearning to be free of what has us imprisoned. If you find yourself between the devil and the deep blue sea, then holler for the hand of Amongst Liars, it’s where the lonely and the lost will survive and launch a counteroffensive that is brave and steadfast, and there is enough love and positivity here even for those who feel they have nothing to bring to the table. You are all welcome, take a seat my friends and share in the bounty from Sussex County.
