‘MISTER SISTER’ Film review. Director Mars Roberge delivers another heavenly splash of back alley Americana.

MISTER SISTER

(World Domination Pictures)

9/10

Director Mars Roberge’s follow up to the stunningly funny and sadly relevant ‘Scumbag’ is another shot of beautiful and brutal realism slung across the mainstream movie bows. His latest offering is the moving ‘Mister Sister’. The tale of a newly broken-hearted straight man who dresses in drag to help him hide away from both people and emotions is seductively addictive. The eyeliner runs, wigs are torn and lifelong friends are made. After landing the job as an MC at a local drag bar the androgynous Jordan (played by the shockingly attractive Jack James Busa) processes, drink, snort and court his way to personal and emotional redemption. Jordan’s journey is littered with highs and lows as he traverses the NYC underground, avoiding three ways, getting punched in the face and falling in love. His outfits and performance are dazzling and a six-foot model dressed as a PVC nun is quite an artistic statement. There is no sex in Mister Sister and while the poster may nudge you towards all manner of sexual peccadillos it acts as a metaphor for the film itself, never judge a person by their make-up.

The bullseye soundtrack is both eclectic and independent while the cinematography is razor sharp and in your face. Mister Sister will relentlessly tickle your senses with laughter, tears and a whole load of street rocking drag queen chit chat. Borrow, buy or steal it, but just f*cking see it.
