Gold Souls “Know Your Kind”

Gold Souls have released the follow-up single to the highly acclaimed debut, Heavy Lies The Crown, to much anticipation and excitement. The offering titled Know your Kind is a hard-hitting, explosive rock track rich with layered guitar harmonies, impressive vocals, and the most kick-ass drumming I have heard from an indie band in years. Know Your Kind centers on a theme of affections lost, questionable value, and exploration of the world alone. Vocalist Dré
Tempfer utilizes his dynamic range with the main verses sung with clarity and the belt-out scream throughout the chorus which snags the listener and compels them to feel the underlying power of this track. multiple tracks of guitars are expertly blended together to create a complete listening space, the choice of riffs and chord changes sit perfectly in the pocket with Dré’s vocals that they play off each other in a call and response feel resolving around the cadence with a vibrant chug, and a heaviness that gives this track its appeal. Of course, as mentioned the drumming takes Know Your Kind to a whole new level, Ry Tempfer throws everything he can at this track, the cymbal work is majestic as he has rife and crash going simultaneously, coupled with the double kick and the syncopated snare hits this infectious beat almost guarantees a mosh pit with every performance.

Know Your Kind is a highly professional, well-executed production, with plenty of allotted headroom, this track will sound best cranked very loud. The effective utilization of time changes throughout the bridge section, and the outro add a surprising flair to this track. Normally, one would find this drop out of the beat to be derivative, yet the Gold
Souls seem to pull it off with eager aptness. A surprisingly well-mixed track for a second single from a band so young, this track has a fullness reserved mostly for larger, major label releases. Know Your Kind will surely receive much attention, as the highly replayable choruses ensure the marketability of this act. This track would fit well on any Alternative and New Rock radio format. I really enjoyed this track, and eagerly await more from this act.
