Liverpool metal outfit Death Blooms today announce that their long awaited debut album ‘Life Is Pain’ will be released 22 October, 2021 via Adventure Cat Records. The crucial collection of tracks features brand new single ‘Shut Up’, which is out today. ‘Shut Up’ was the first track to be played live on stage at this year’s Download Pilot festival at Donington Park and received a rapturous response from all assembled. Death Blooms’ performance was hailed by Metal Hammer as “a huge, historical moment” and The Guardian attested that the band “face their task with gusto”.
Vocalist Paul Barrow says of the catharsis embodied through ‘Shut Up’: “This is a bite back at the shit-stains on society who look down on other people and who think they’re somehow better, and treat others as if they’re worthless. You might think you’re special, but you’re wrong. You’re just the same as me.”
The release of ‘Life Is Pain’ has been some time in the making. Barrow explains: “We recorded the album last year with David Radahd-Jones in Manchester at Red City, which seems like a lifetime ago at this point. We’ve been in the exact same position as everyone else: raring to go, but waiting for the right moment. These songs were all written before what’s happened in the last 18 months, but I feel like they’ve been given a new meaning and a new lease of life, and I’m hoping that’ll resonate with everyone who hears them. Initially, we had intended to release a 13 track album, but we had to adapt and think fast, so we decided to split off a few songs, which ended up being our EP, Fuck Everything, that was released earlier this year. I do still feel like these songs are part of the album, so we’ll be giving them as much live love as the actual album tracks. I just didn’t want anyone to feel short-changed, so we decided to run with things as differently as we could for the album. The songs really are a delve into torment, human psyche, catharsis and release.”
The title track of ‘Fuck Everything’ featured on the BBC Radio 1 Indie Show as Jack Saunders’ Next Wave and the attention amassed by the EP also led to Death Blooms being shortlisted for Best UK Breakthrough Band at the Heavy Music Awards this year.
In the live-music-inhibiting climate of 2020, Death Blooms managed to make the most of their opportunities, playing Slipknot’s online Pulse of The Maggots Fest, as well as a couple of socially-distanced gigs supporting the hotly-tipped Wargasm. Death Blooms will be hitting the road with Blood Youth and Trash Boat in September and October armed with their cutthroat collection of tracks.
